As the world converges on our country for the FIFA World Cup, AC Grand Rapids has partnered with local artist Nate Knoth to create a visual love letter to West Michigan soccer culture. The poster imagines the poster that would’ve been created if GR had been named a host city for the tournament.
A Fusion of Fluidity and Local Iconography
The poster utilizes a distinct mid-century graphic novel aesthetic combined with a bold, earth-toned color palette of vintage creams, rich teals, and vibrant chartreuse. At the center of the canvas is a stylized, dynamic footballer caught mid-stride, flawlessly executing a side volley.
What makes the piece truly resonant is its deep-rooted local symbolism.
The player stands upon the rocky formations of the Grand River, with the iconic blue metal trusses of the Sixth Street Bridge cleanly framing the mid-ground. The river itself flows, strong and rhythmic, mirroring the creative energy and constant motion of the Grand Rapids art and sports communities.
On the left flank, a towering, block-lettered “GRAND RAPIDS 2026” monument reaches toward a crowning star, establishing an undeniable, proud sense of place.
The “Flow Together” Mantra
Tucked neatly into the stadium lattice behind the player are the words “FLOW TOGETHER” — a nod to the natural movement of the Grand River and the collaborative spirit of the club. And on the right side is the official AC Grand Rapids crest, etching the artwork into club lore.
